New MRI (Magnetic Resonance Image) Scanner for the children of Lady Ridgeway Hospital

The Government of People's Republic of China has donated a MRI (Magnetic Resonance Image) Scanner to children of Lady Ridgeway Hospital; the opening ceremony of which was held on 29th of April 2014 under the patronage of the First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksha at Lady Ridgeway Hospital. This was gifted on a special request made by the First Lady.

Students of Royal College have promised their co- operation for the programme “A society free from drugs 2014,” launched by the Ministry of Health.

A programme for educating the school children on the use of cigarettes and alcohol was held yesterday (24th, April) at the auditorium of Royal College with the participation of Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena . This programme has been started jointly by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education to protect the school children from being addicted to alcohol and cigarettes.

WHO declares 11 states including Sri Lanka in the South-Eastern Asian region have eliminated Polio Virus.

It has been declared on 27th March 2014 that 11 states including Sri Lanka in the South-Eastern Asian Region have eliminated polio virus, according to a study of WHO.A certificate declaring 11 countries including Sri Lanka as a region free from polio virus was handed to the Minister of Health Hon. Mr. Maithreepala Sirisena by the Sri Lankan representative of the WHO Dr. Firdosi Rustom, yesterday night (08th).


Trincomalee General Hospital comes under Ministry of Health – 08th April 2014

As per a decision of the Eastern provincial council Ministry of Health had been requested to take over the Trincomalee General Hospital by the Eastern Provincial Council.  Accordingly, Trincomalee General Hospital was Taken over by the Ministry of Health, yesterday (07) at the Hospital with the participation of Hon. Minister of Health Mr. Maithreepala Sirisena, Hon. Deputy Minister of Health Mr. Lalith Dissanayake, Hon. Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana Mr. M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardhane, Hon. Governor of the Eastern Province Rear Admiral Mr. Mohan Wijewickrama, Secretary of Health, Dr. Nihal Jayathilake.
