Four-storied Nursing Hostel constructed at a cost of 160 million rupees at the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama was declared open

Four-storied Nursing Hostel constructed at the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama was opened yesterday (18th) by the Minister of Health Hon.Maithreepala Sirisena. This Hostel is capable of accommodating 400 nurses at once and the Government has spent Rs. 160 millions for the construction of this Hostel. Construct ion of this Hostel with all the facilities has provided a solution to the severe hostel problem which existed in the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama for the last 10 years.

A MOU on Procurement of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices between the Government of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was signed by Hon. Maitripala Sirisena, Minister of Health of Sri Lanka, and Hon. Mohammed Nasim, Minister of Health & Family Welfare of Bangladesh on 23rd June 2014 at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of Bangladesh. The significant MOU was initially proposed during the visit of Sri Lankan Health Minister to Bangladesh in April 2013 as a measure to improve efficiency of supplying pharmaceuticals and medical devices to Sri Lankan government hospitals through a Government to Government basis.

Dengue is on the rise – let’s get protected!

What is dengue?

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. There are four closely related but antigenically different serotypes of the virus that can cause dengue (DEN1, DEN 2, DEN 3, DEN 4).Dengue has a wide spectrum of infection outcome (asymptomatic to symptomatic). Symptomatic illness can vary from undifferentiated fever (viral syndrome), dengue fever (DF), dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue with unusual manifestations. DF and DHF comprise the bulk of symptomatic illness while unusual dengue is a rare entity (usually <1%).

World Blood Donor Day Global Event 2014

Since the declaration of World Blood Donor Day by WHO in 2004, National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) Sri Lanka has initiated the WBDD celebrations in mass scale. In its annual event calendar, NBTS assigns the highest priority to this event considering the immense contribution of this event with regard to education, motivation, recruitment and retention of volunteer blood donors. Being recognized as a National event under the patronage of Ministry of Health and with the generous contributions of leading private sector organizations it has become a major public attraction.

I want to see the birth of a prefect, flawless and legitimate child “said the Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena participating in a conference held jointly with the Sri Lanka Medical Association at the auditorium of the National Blood Transfusion centre on to discuss the ideas and suggestions regarding the draft on the proposed National Medicinal Drugs, Devices and cosmetics Regulatory authority Bill framed according to prof. Senaka Bibile’s Drugs Policy.
