5000 Pupil nurses recruited for training for nursing services for the first time

Health Ministry has arranged to train 5000 pupil nurses for the nursing Service to strengthen the free Health Service in Sri Lanka. Appointment letters for the trainees were awarded done by His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Sugathadasa Stadium on 11th November 2014 at 10. a.m. Hon. Maithripala Sirisena Minister of Health also participated in this occasion. The requirement of strengthening the health services and the improvement of quality of care was identified as a timely need by the present Government.
In the year 2010, 3366 Pupil nurses were recruited and in the year 2012, 2239 pupil nurses were recruited. In the year 2013 the total recruited were 2823 while in the year 2014 2535 was recruited. This batch of 5000 pupil nurses is the highest amount in the history.

High-tech equipment for dengue prevention, mosquito control and patient care

Hon. Maithripala Sirisena , Minister of Health provided high–tech equipment for dengue prevention, mosquito control and patient care for all provinces with the aim of strengthening the dengue preventive, mosquito control and patient care services.
This was done at a cost of Rs.27.5 million. These equipment consisted of 10 blood analyzers, 8 scanners and 25 spray machines for dengue mosquito control. These equipment were handed over to the Provincial Health Ministers at a function held at National Blood Transfusion Services, Narahenpita. Secretary of Ministry of Health Sudharma Karunaratne, Additional Secretary Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva, Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala and Health Ministers of Provincial Councils, Provincial Health Directors and Health Ministry officials participated at this occasion.

World Stroke Day

The WORLD STROKE DAY was held on 29th October 2014. A special program with this regard was held at Health Education Bureau under the patronage of Hon. Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Health.
The Global Stroke Bill of rights was launched on 29th at the World Stroke Day awareness program with the objective of ensuring the right to receive the best stroke care, right to be informed and prepared and the right to be supported in the recovery. Thus through the Global Stroke Bill of Rights stroke survivors get an opportunity to receive the best stroke care, be informed prepared and be supported in the recovery.
Dr. Palitha Mahipala Director General of Health Services, Dr. Udaya Ranavaka Chairman of National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka, Dr. Padma Gunarathna Former Chairman of National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka and Dr. (Mrs.) Neelamani Hewageegana Director Health Education Bureau participated in this occasion.

36th Commemoration ceremony of Professor Senaka Bibile

36th Commemoration ceremony of Professor Senaka Bibile was held under the patronage of Hon. Maitripala Sirisena, Minister of Health at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. At this occasion students who excelled in the pharmacology discipline was awarded with scholarships. These students were from University of Peradeniya , Colombo, Rajarata, Jaffna, Ruhuna etc.

New Ward Complex for District Hospital Akkarayankulam

His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa declares open a new ward complex at Akkarayankulam District Hospital. This ultra modern ward complex comprises of a children’s ward, maternity ward, surgical theater facilities and a labour room.
