Year
2002 can be identified as a year full of activities in view of the
establishment, administrative and development functions that were
dealt with during the period. Rapid expansion and development in
health services and social transformation led to these increased
activities.
According
to the organizational set up of the Department of Health Services,
there are 15 Deputy/Additional Deputy Directors General under the
Director General of Health Services Directors are working under
these Deputy / Additional Deputy Directors General. Administrative
functions of the Head Quarters are entirely attended to by the Central
Administration Branch under the Deputy Director General (Administration).
02
Administration Branch
As ervice need that had arisen during the latter part of 1999 paved
the way for filling a large number of vacancies in the health Assistant
Medical Officers, Para Medical Services, Technological Services,
Professions Supplementary to Medicine, Nursing Service, Clerks,
Data Entry Operators and Ordinary Laborers
were of special significance.
A schedule showing the new recruits is attached hereto.
244
Nurses who passed out from schools of Nursing in June, 2000 were
posted to 7hospitals. In
addition to this, 1415 nurses were recruited for training.
169 nursing officers retired from service and 20 vacated
their posts during the period under review.
299 left the Island on no pay leave for foreign employment.
7415
Candidates sat the examination for recruitment of pupil nurses in
June 2000, and the results could be computerized by the end of December.
Uniforms
of minor staff was a grave problem
the Department had to face during the year 2000.
Further, the limit in overtime to minor staff was removed,
and a decision was taken to make payment of overtime depending on
the length of work done. However
the minor staff refused
to use the uniform approved by the Department of Health Services
as agreed at the meeting held under the
patronage of H.E the President during the latter part of
1999, and thus it remained as an unresolved problem during
the year.
Taking
into consideration the excessive amount of work the Deputy Director
General (Administration) had to perform, some of such duties were handed over to an Additional
Deputy Director General.
